Certified Financial Planner: The CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER TM, CFP® and federally registered CFP® (with flame design) marks (collectively, the “CFP® marks”) are professional certification marks granted in the United States by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (“CFP Board”). The CFP® certification is a voluntary certification; no federal or state law or regulation requires financial planners to hold CFP® certification. It is recognized in the United States and a number of other countries for its (1) high standard of professional education; (2) stringent code of conduct and standards of practice; and (3) ethical requirements that govern professional engagements with clients. Currently, more than 71,000 individuals have obtained CFP® certification in the United States.

The Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) charter is a globally recognized, graduate-level investment credential established in 1962 and awarded by CFA Institute, a global association of investment professionals.

To earn the CFA charter, a candidate must: (1) pass three sequential examinations (Levels I, II, and III), which are computer-based and also require completion of the Practical Skills Modules, with Level III offering specialized pathways such as Portfolio Management, Private Wealth, or Private Markets; (2) complete at least 4,000 hours of qualified investment work experience over a minimum of 36 months; (3) provide professional references and become a regular member of CFA Institute; and (4) commit to abide by, and annually reaffirm, adherence to the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.

High Ethical Standards. The CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct, enforced through an active professional conduct program, require CFA charterholders to: place their clients’ interests ahead of their own; maintain independence and objectivity; act with integrity; maintain and improve their professional competence; and disclose conflicts of interest and legal matters.

Curriculum. The CFA Program curriculum covers a broad range of fundamental and advanced investment topics, including ethical and professional standards, quantitative methods, economics, financial reporting and analysis, corporate issuers, equity and fixed-income analysis, derivatives, alternative investments, portfolio management, and wealth planning. The curriculum is updated regularly to reflect current investment practice. To learn more about the CFA charter, visit www.cfainstitute.org.

The CPWA® certification is administered by the Investments & Wealth Institute (“IWI”) and is centered on advanced private wealth management topics and strategies for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients. Prerequisites for the CPWA® certification are a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or one of the following certifications or licenses — CIMA®, RMA®, CFA®, CFP®, ChFC®, or a CPA license — together with five years of professional client-centered experience in financial services and a satisfactory record of ethical conduct as determined by IWI’s Admissions Committee, including passing a background check.

To earn the certification, candidates complete an IWI-registered executive education program (offered through providers such as the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, the Yale School of Management, or IWI) and pass a comprehensive computer-based certification examination. CPWA® certificants must adhere to IWI’s Code of Professional Responsibility and, to maintain the certification, must complete and report a minimum of 40 hours of continuing education (including 2 hours of ethics and 1 hour of tax/regulations) every two years, together with the renewal fee.
